Competitions

This competition is open to all members of the Gloucestershire Association of Woodturners. Pieces need not have been made specifically for this Competition, however, no piece should have been entered in any other competition.

The format of the competition will be a Themed event every 2 months. There will be three categories Novice, Intermediate and Advanced and an Annual Prize will be awarded to the highest scoring entrant in each category. The turner accruing the most points over the year, from any category, will be awarded the Turner of the Year Trophy.

Winners of the Novice and Intermediate Category will be promoted to the next highest category for future competitions

Points (from one to five) will be awarded based on the following criteria:

Design: Proportion, shape, fitness for purpose.
Finish: Choice of finish & execution, colour.
Timber Choice: Suitability for project, grain & colour combinations.
Technical Challenge: Degree of difficulty attempted.
General Appeal: Each entry will therefore receive a ‘score’ according to the above criteria, up to a maximum of 30 points.
